Welcome to the ESL Sports Centre

We're in Rink #1 (without the ice!) at the ESL Sports Centre, 2700 Brighton-Henrietta Townline Road, on the campus of Monroe Community College. It has free wireless Internet access throughout, including in its restaurant and meeting rooms. The facility is handicap accessible.

The facility is south of the City of Rochester off of I-390 and 10 minutes away from the NY State Thruway and airport. Nearby are several moderately-priced hotels and motels, along with restaurants for every taste and budget. Marketplace Mall is down the road with well over 125 shops.

2008 Special Events

"Early Bird" Bourse- Friday, 9:30-11 AM! Stamp dealers not reserving tables for ROPEX or interested collectors are invited to enter the show early for a $20 admission fee. The show opens to the public at 11 AM with free admission.

ROPEX International Rate Stamps First Day Ceremony- Friday, 10:15 AM! Rochester and ROPEX have been selected as the official USPS first day host city and site for the release of two new stamps depicting "13 Mile Woods, Errol, New Hampshire" (72 cents Canada/Mexico 1 oz.) and "St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands" (94 cents, international 1 oz.). The RPA is organizinging the ceremony. Read the USPS stamp release announcement from February 22. The ROPEX commemorative cancel for the first day depicts the official flowers of both locales, the lilac for New Hampshire and the yellow elder (cedar) for the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Stamp Camp USA, Saturday, 10 AM-4 PM Cheryl Edgcomb of Knoxville, PA, originator and Executive Director of Stamp Camp USA, comes to Rochester with a fun 6 hour class on stamp collecting basics for kids aged 8-14. Advanced registration is required and space is limited on a first-come basis. A $25 charge covers all materials, with scholorships possibly available through donor support in the near future. Throughout the Show- Members of the public are welcome to bring stamps and other philatelic items to the show to help identify them and get a free informal appraisal of their value. Visit the RPA table at the entrance for assistance.

Cachet Makers' Bourse- To be held Saturday between noon and 5 PM. Dealers will sell their own cachet covers for a variety of issues.


Just for Kids

   

The ROPEX Youth Booth will be open Saturday and Sunday with fun activities, electronic games and lots of free stamps and covers for kids to enjoy.

Youth 3-D Creative Exhibit Competition- Youngsters participate in this unique combination of artwork and philatelic elements. It encourages artwork with the inclusion of appropriate philatelic elements to represent a unified theme or idea. There is no entry fee for participating. Samples are above.

    Area Hotels and Rates

    ROPEX has reserved a block of rooms at the Best Western Marketplace Inn, only about a mile away from the ESL Centre at a rate of $99 per night, discounted from $129. It is within walking distance of several restaurants. Only 20 rooms are available at this price. Call the hotel directly to make reservations at 585-427-2700 and ask for the special stamp show rate under group reservation number 1233.

    Alternative hotel details are provided as a convenience for show-goers with 2007 non-event rates that may have changed. Add 14% tax to all prices. Many offer AAA and AARP discounts. Also check other Internet sites for possible discounts at these hotels. ROPEX 2008 is being held during the two-week Rochester Lilac Festival and graduation weekend for the Rochester Institute of Technology, as it was last year.

    Buffet banquet tickets are available for $30 each. Cash bar and seating 6-6:30, dinner at 6:30.
